Each season poses it's own challenges for your vehicle. Summer brings intense heat, the winter brings snow and ice, and the fall brings leaves and heavy traffic. Here is some information to get your vehicle through the fall and into the winter looking it's best.
While changing leaves look beautiful on the trees, they can be harmful to your vehicles paint. As leaves decay, acids are produced to breakdown the leaves. These acids will etch the outline of the leaf into your paint. Your vehicle's best protection is a quality car wax.
With the start of school after summer break, you will see more buses on the road, and slow traffic in school zones. Your car will be exposed to car exhaust and brake dust. Again ,a good coat of wax is your best defense most of the time. You may need to have your paint deep cleaned at times using detailing clay to remove airborne pollutants. Detailing clay is an elastic, synthetic clay that safely detoxifies the paint.
What is the best way to wash and dry my vehicle?
Most swirl marks and scratches that appear in your vehicles paint are caused by poor washing. Thorough weekly washes and careful hand drying are the best ways to care for your vehicle. Quickly removing contaminants on the paint before they start to do damage that can require polishing and compounding.
First never wash in direct sunlight. Second, it's very important to choose tools that are gentle on the paint, yet still effective at removing contamination. Wash the wheels and tires first. Empty and rinse all cleaning materials used on the tires before you start on the paint. Always start with clean water and a car wash that is rich in lubricants. The purpose of the car wash is to remove contaminants and lubricate them so they do not scratch the paint as they slide off the vehicle.
Never skip drying your vehicle. This will help to prevent water spots. Water spots are caused by mineral deposits that etch the outline of a drop of water into your vehicles paint.
