Keeping your Vehicle Germ and Virus Free

The Coronavirus has definitely changed the way we                                                                                   live our lives in many ways.  We are all doing what we                                                                               can to assist in stopping the spread of the virus,                                                                                          including washing our hands and keeping social                                                                                      distance from others.  But there is more we can do to                                                                                 protect ourselves and our loved ones.

We are aware of how nice it is to keep our vehicles                                                                                    clean, but now more than ever is it actually                                                                                                   important.  Disinfecting your vehicle properly will            help to stop the Coronavirus and Influenza from harming our loved ones.

If you are a Do-It-Yourselfer..... Here are some helpful tips.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily, and that includes your vehicle. Germs will happily hitch a ride from your trip to the supermarket or elsewhere back to your vehicle

Most of us are trained to wipe down frequently-touched surfaces in our homes (door knobs, light switches) whenever someone has the flu or a nasty cold. But how often do those practices carry over to the family car? Not often, according to a recent Expedia group study cited by CNN Travel.. It found that one-third (32%) of people surveyed only clean their car once a year. Yikes! Think about all the things inside your car you touch.

What to use:

An 50 / 50 alcohol / water solution that contains at least 70% alcohol
are effective against viruses according to the CDC.  Spray the solution on to
a mircofiber towel and wipe surfaces. (Do not scrub)  For the most part, nearly
every interior surface of a vehicle can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol,
including imitation leather and leather.  We always recommend doing a
test spot in an inconspicuous place to be sure your leather can handle the
solution.  Be sure to wear gloves and use a conditioner on your leather afterwards .

Where to clean:

  • The steering wheel is constantly touched.

  • Don’t forget the exterior and interior door handles, your gear shifter, the climate control buttons and radio knobs or buttons, the rear view mirror, and your center console including the cup holders.

  • All of the seat, seat belts and clips and car seats.

  • Dash and doors.

  • Use microfiber cloths to wipe down touchscreens.

  • Wipe down your key fob.

  • Pay attention to your A/C vents, floor mats and the trunk as well.
